Managing passwords efficiently is crucial for both security and convenience. Microsoft Edge’s built-in password manager offers a secure way to store and autofill passwords, making it easier to manage multiple accounts. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to enable the password manager in Microsoft Edge using Intune’s Settings Catalog.

Steps to Enable Password Manager in Edge Using Intune

Follow these steps to enable the password manager in Microsoft Edge using Intune:

  1. Sign in to the Intune Admin Center:
  2. Create a Configuration Profile:
    • Navigate to Devices > Manage Devices > Configuration Policies > Create > New Policy.
    • Select Windows 10 and later as the platform.
    • Choose Settings Catalog as the profile type.
    • Click Create.

  3. Configure the Password Manager Settings:
    • On the Basics section, add the name and description, e.g. Enable Password Manager to the password Managerin Edge and click Next
    • In the Configuration settings section, click on Add settings.
    • Search for Microsoft Edge.
    • Locate the setting Enable saving passwords to Password Manager.
    • Set Enable saving passwords to the password manager to Enabled and click Next

  4. Assign the Profile to Devices:
    • Click 2 times Next to go to the Assignments tab.
    • Select the user groups or devices you want to apply this policy to.
    • Click Next and then Create to deploy the profile.
  5. Monitor the Deployment:
    • After deploying the profile, monitor its status in the Configuration section.
    • Ensure that the policy is successfully applied to the targeted devices.

Preferred settings for the Password Manager

  • Allow users to be alerted if their passwords are found to be unsafe
  • Allow users to get a strong password suggestion whenever they are creating an account online
  • Configure password protection warning trigger > Password protection warning is triggered by password reuse
  • Configures a setting that asks users to enter their device password while using password autofill
