Microsoft Edge, equipped with many latest settings, has become a popular web browser among users. Dark Mode, one of the coolest features nowadays, is widely adopted by various operating systems and applications. However, not all applications and web content suit the dark mode theme. Therefore, Microsoft Edge offers some settings that enable users to switch the dark mode on or off. In this post, we will explain in detail how to enable dark mode for web content on Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft Edge has two types of dark mode settings:

  1. Enable Dark Mode Theme in Microsoft Edge Browser Settings: This setting only changes the theme to dark mode in the browser. It does not alter any web content into dark mode.
  2. Force Enable Dark Mode for Web Content in Microsoft Edge Browser Settings: This setting fully changes the background to dark mode and applies to all web content.

To enable the dark mode theme for web content on Microsoft Edge, follow these steps:

  1. Launch Microsoft Edge and click on the three horizontal dots menu located in the top right corner of the browser.
  2. Select the Settings option from the built-in options list.
  3. Under Settings, click on Appearance.
  4. Under Customize Appearance, select Dark from the three options: System default, Light, and Dark.
  5. Alternatively, you can directly reach the location by typing edge://settings/appearance in the address bar of the Microsoft Edge browser and pressing ENTER.

To forcefully enable dark mode for web content on Microsoft Edge, follow these steps:

  1. Type edge://flags in the address bar of the Microsoft Edge browser and press ENTER.
  2. In the search bar of flags, type dark mode, and the Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents appears for the search.
  3. Select the desired option from the list of available options in Dark Mode experiments.
  4. Change the Default, click on it, and select Enabled. A pop-up message will appear as “Your changes will take effect after you restart Microsoft Edge” click on Restart to apply the changes in it. Alternatively, you can reach the location directly by typing edge://flags/#enable-force-dark.

After restarting the browser, the dark mode theme is now enabled for all web content in Microsoft Edge. All the web content in the browser opens in dark mode. However, some dark mode settings may not be suitable for every user. Therefore, you can customize the dark mode theme according to your preference.
