About

Opera is a multi-platform web browser developed by its namesake company Opera. The browser is based on Chromium but distinguishes itself from other Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, etc.) through its user interface and other features. Opera was initially released on 10 April 1995, making it one of the oldest desktop web browsers still actively developed. It was commercial software for its first ten years and had its own proprietary layout engine, Presto. In 2013, it switched from the Presto engine to Chromium. Opera is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS (Safari WebKit engine). There are also mobile versions called Opera Mobile and Opera Mini. Opera users also have access to Opera News, a news app based on an AI platform.

Repackaging Tips

The application uses the files for configuration.
The command line options shown in the 'EXE-based installer' section above take care of a bunch of things to start.
Optionally create a file called preferences that contains preconfigured preferences (such as to enable ad-blocker) and copy it to the user's AppData/Roaming/Opera Software/Opera Stable folder.
Modify the shortcut to Opera to add --disable-update as command line argument.
No files in AppData/Local or Roaming by the installer, however, configuration information is stored in both locations.
There is an updater, enabled by default. This may be turned off through a file in the user's AppData/local folder. Unfortunately, the software generates a system hash for the path to this file so automated packaging to turn this off is not practical except by end user. But this is the same as with a native install.
No FTAs or Shell Extensions.
Lots of ActiveX.
