About

Notepad++ is a free text editor for Microsoft Windows that provides additional features not found in the standard Windows text editor, Notepad. It was first released on November 24, 2003, by developer Dan Ho, and is still in active development. Notepad++ is specially designed for editing source code. The "++" in the name is a reference to the increment operator in programming languages such as C, C++, Java, and JavaScript.

Repackaging Tips

Disable Notepad++ 8.5 Auto-Update
  1. Open Notepad++, go to the "Settings" tab, and select "Preferences".
  2. Under the "MISC." section, uncheck the option "Enable Notepad++ Auto-Updater".
  3. Click "Close" and exit the Notepad++ application.
  4. Navigate to the current user profile directory located at "%AppData%\Notepad++".
  5. Copy the "config.xml" file to the "C:\Downloads" directory with the Notepad++ executable you downloaded earlier.
  6. Rename the "config.xml" file to "config.model.xml". This will serve as the template for all future installations.
  7. Uninstall Notepad++ and delete the "%AppData%\Notepad++" directory. If a "config.xml" file already exists in the user's profile, the settings will not change during a new installation or upgrade.
  8. Follow the steps to install Notepad++ silently, as mentioned earlier in the article. Then copy the "config.model.xml" file to the "%ProgramFiles%\Notepad++" directory.
  9. Finally, delete the "%ProgramFiles%\Notepad++\updater" directory to prevent any future update notifications.
